Imagine waking up to the smell of cinnamon in the air, is there anything better? Now you can treat your family to a warm apple turnovers with a minimum of fuss. It’s basically like making a borekas, except that the filling is applelicious! Here’s what you’ll need:1 package kosher puff dough
5 large granny smith apples, peeled and cored
2 tbsp butter or margarine
1 egg
1/3 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup sugar (splenda also works well)
1 tsp lemon juice
First cut up the puff dough into 12 equal cubes, roll then out to about a ½ inch thickness and set aside, then peel and core the apples, slice them and toss them in the sugar. In a skillet, heat the butter or margarine and add the apple, sugar and cinnamon, sauté them till soft and brown in color. Preheat the oven to 375F and in the meantime, fill the puff dough with 1 full tsp of apple brush the sides with water and fold over. Make sure the seam is perfectly sealed. Place them on a baking sheet, I like using parchment paper sprayed with Pam, then brush the egg over each turnover, sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon and bake for about 40 minutes or until golden and puffed up.
Enjoy!
