It's Sunday morning and we have leftover Challah that my mom made for Shabbat, so I figured that the best way to use it up was to make French toast. The typical recipe requires that you fry them up, but I don't like frying them in deep oil, so I use about 6 to 8 tbsps total for about 12 slices. The recipe is simple, the results delicious and the toppings can vary from plain sugar, maple syrup or even chocolate spread. Here's what you'll need:
4 to 5 eggs beaten
1 cup milk
6 to 8 tbsps of canola oilFirst, add the oil into a large frying pan and heat at high, then in a large bowl pour in the milk then add in the eggs and beat lightly, then dredge the bread slices in the mixture one by one, quickly so as not to wet it too much then add to the hot oil and lower the heat to medium and let the toast brown on one side then flip over to let brown on the other. Make sure to let them cook at least 3 to 4 minutes on the first side then about 2 minutes on the other, so that the middle is cooked and won't turn out soggy. Once ready, plate them and top with powdered sugar and butter or maple syrup and enjoy!
