Meatballs and the pea party

For a few days I asked myself what will I make for Shabbat? I thought maybe minute steaks, or chicken, I even considered tongue, then last night, when push came to shove, I decided to make something I haven't had in maybe 10 years. I made meatballs with peas, carrots, potatoes and onions. It's basically the same recipe as "boulettes et petits pois" except that you add diced potatoes, carrots and more onion that the regular dish. It's nothing fancy, some might even dislike it, but I associate it with good memories of childhood.
So here's what you'll need:

1 pound kosher ground beef
2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
1 large onion, diced
2 medium carrots, peeled and diced
Less than 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
less than 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
dash nutmeg

3 tbsp oil
garlic powder
onion powder
salt
pepper

In a bowl, mix the meat with the breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp water, 2 tbsp oil, salt, pepper, a dash of nutmeg, a dash of turmeric, garlic and onion powder, mix it all up thoroughly with your hands and form your meatballs. In a heated pot, add the oil, then saute the chopped onion till it softens, then add the other vegetables and saute them for a few minutes, almost cover the veggies with water, add salt and a dash of turmeric, bring to a boil then drop the meatballs inside and lower the heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes. Then uncover the pot and simmer for another 20 minutes until the meatballs turn darker and most of the water has evaporated and most importantly, enjoy!
