One of my favourite ways to start off a Sunday morning is with a bowl of “Berkouks”. Growing up, my mom made this for us for breakfast or sometimes if we begged lunch. Some people only eat this on special occasions, but for me, this can be eaten as a weekday dinner, that’s how much I love it. The recipe is very basic, but as with all my recipes, I’ve suped it up to my taste, here’s what you’ll need:
1/2 bag small pasta (petits plombs)
½ cup milk
2 tbsp butter
Salt
1 large spoon kosher Cream cheese (optional)
Grated cheese (optional)
In a pan add water and salt and bring to a boil then add the pasta (petits plombs). Once they have soaked up all the water, (test them to make sure they are cooked enough), add the milk and a good spoon of butter and salt. Most people stop there, some add cold milk and sugar, I add to the pot, 1 large tbsp of cream cheese and if I’m really in a mood, some grated cheese, but generally just the cream cheese will add a great depth and a creamy texture that you won’t get from milk and butter alone.
