Not just plain old rice

Rice is a staple and should be found in every pantry, the more types the better. The wonderful thing with rice is that every type has its own distinct flavor. Whether you use Basmati, brown rice, wild rice or plain old parboiled, you are sure to get your money's worth and your family's approval.
A good way to give extra flavor to plain parboiled rice is to boil it in flavored liquids like chicken stock.
You can have fun with it and add different spices or herbs as well. Here is a quick and easy rice recipe that is sure to please.
Onion soup rice:
1 1/2 cup parboiled rice
3 cups water
1 tbsp onion soup mix
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
In a medium pot, heat the oil then add the rice and mix it well till its fully coated with the oil and starts to sizzle, then add the water, onion soup and salt, stir and bring to a boil, stir again, cover and lower the heat to a minimum and cook for about 15 to 18 minutes. Your family is sure to love it with chicken or meat served as a main dish.
