Breaded meatballs are not a necessity on a weekday menu, but they are tasty. This is another recipe that can be made with different sauces to please your family's palette. So forget the calories while freezing your buns off in the sukkah this holiday and enjoy your dinner instead! Here's what you'll need:
1 pound kosher minced meat
1 pound kosher minced meat
1/4 breadcrumbs
2 eggs
3/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
a dash of nutmeg
a dash of turmeric
salt & pepper to taste
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp oil
oil for frying
Tomato and onion:
1 can diced tomatoes
1 large diced onion
salt & pepper to taste
Mustard garlic sauce:
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
2 cloves garlic mashed
1 cup saffron infused water
salt & pepper to taste
First prepare your meat, in a large bowl combine the meat with the breadcrumbs, spices water and tbsp of oil and mix well with your hands, then shape them into patties and dredge them in flour then in the beaten eggs and fry them for 2 to 3 minutes till they start to brown, then the other side for another 2 minutes. Drain on a paper towel and proceed with the sauce. If making the tomato based one, saute the diced onion in a large pan, then add the canned tomatoes, add seasonings, let it come to a boil, then add the meatballs, lower to heat to a minimum and let them simmer covered for 20 minutes, then uncovered for another minutes.
If making the second sauce; heat a pan with some oil, then add the minced garlic, the mustard and saffron water, bring to a boil and add the meatballs , follow the same steps as above for cooking method and time.
