The easiest way to recreate the "Big Mac" is to either use veggie burgers with American cheese slices or to use real beef patties with Tofu "cheese" slices. Since it's Tisha B'Av and we can't have any meat, I'm opting for the vegetarian option. There are two important things when making the "Big Mac", first of all, the burger has to have two levels and it has to have the special sauce. So here's what you'll need:
(makes 1)
2 kosher veggie burger patties (Yves's brand)
1 full hamburger bun (ideally with sesame seeds)
1 bottom hamburger bun
1 large pickles, sliced in circles
2 tbsp diced onion
2 slices of American sliced cheese
1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
2 tbsp "big mac sauce"
(makes 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup miracle whip
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp french dressing
2 tbsp sweet relish
1 tsp ketchup
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp vinegar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
mix everything together and keep in a container in the fridge
(it'll taste better if you let it "marinate" at east an hour before using)
Start by heating the veggie burgers, this can be done in the oven, on a pan or in the toaster and keep them warm. Then lightly toast the top of the bun and the two bottoms with a slice of cheese on each so that it starts to melt. Now add on one of the bottom buns: 1 tbsp of sauce, followed by half the lettuce, then the burger, topped with 1/3 of the onion and 3 pickle slices, then onto the 2nd bottom bun already with cheese, again, add a tbsp sauce, lettuce, onion and pickles, then the 2nd veggie burger, topped with a bit more sauce and the remaining onions and cover with top bun. Put it on a plate, prepare a few napkins and enjoy!
